Character AIM: n/a

Character: Ariel
Series: The Little Mermaid
Version:Post 1st Movie, but pre 2nd
Age:17
Gender:Female
Sexuality:Straight and Married!

Appearance: Ariel, in her present human form, is rather small in stature, about 5’4”, but what she lacks in height she more than makes up for in personality. She has long, bright-red hair, with layers that cascade down to her waist, and bangs that swirl across her forehead in a way that is impossible to imitate. Her eyes are large and a clear, bright blue, her innocence clearly displayed in them. She has an ever-present bright smile on her pretty face. She is thin but healthy, and not very athletic in appearance. She could probably run a fair distance, but is more suited for swimming. She is not very curvy, but there is no mistaking her femininity, and she has long limbs and soft features.

Personality: Ariel is bubbly, innocent, naïve and adventurous. She loves to explore, almost completely oblivious to the dangers around her, and is easily distracted by all things beautiful and shiny. She has an ever-present optimism about life, and a complete disregard for rules if they cramp her need to explore.

Ariel is fiercely brave, almost dangerously so. She has immediately risked her life to save a friend from a hungry shark, given up her treasured voice to an evil witch for a chance at true love, and even tested her father’s wrath for the sake of adventure. She can be detrimentally single-minded in that aspect, however, taking immediate action as she sees fit, but without seeing the bigger picture, especially potentially negative outcomes. As a classic, natural red-head, she has a fiery vein in her, often saying exactly what she’s thinking before considering the consequences.

She is also incredibly loyal and caring. She loves immediately and deeply, willing to take risks for those she’s just met, and even moreso for those she calls her friends. She trusts blindly until given a reason not to, and even then is more than willing to forgive. Unless you’ve harmed someone she cares about, then it will take much longer to repair it, if ever.

Abilities/Weaponry: Redundantly, she is a fantastic swimmer. She also has a beautiful singing voice, enough so that it was envied by and seen as very powerful by the sea witch Ursula. She is also quite spry and agile, which gives her an advantage in evasion.

She is very brave, as was mentioned before, and this can be a strength in that she is willing to go the extra mile to achieve and get things done, whether that be leading or following, she will take the initiative and always follows through.

Weaknesses: She is very brave. She can be prone to action before fully exploring the outcome and this can put her in danger, or cause her to alienate herself in relationships. She is also quite naïve, innocent, and very trusting, and while these are endearing qualities, she can be taken advantage of and convinced into actions without knowledge of a person’s true intentions.

Physically, she is rather weak and entirely unskilled in any form of combat, though this would not stop her from trying, which would no doubt cause her more harm than good effect.

Also, her knowledge of the “surface” world is limited and idealistic, at best. She is truly still a bit of a fish out of water, pardon the terrible pun. It would also be safe to assume that she cannot read.

History:Youngest sister, daddy’s girl, married the perfect prince. Got it? Good.

Ariel is the youngest of 7 sisters, and the only to inherit her mother Athena’s bright red locks. Sadly, Ariel’s own memories of her mother are very few. Athena tragically died in the wake of a crashing ship in an attempt to preserve a music box that Triton had given her. Ariel was a mere 5 years old. After this tragedy Triton banned all music from the kingdom of Atlantica. It wasn’t until about ten years later that Ariel began to search for music again. After rescuing Flounder from capture for making music, she followed him to a secret music club, and there she remembered lost memories of her mother, and the joy that music once brought her. After getting herself and all involved into quite a bit of trouble, Ariel and company were able to sway King Triton into allowing and encouraging music in the undersea kingdom once more.

Fast forward a year or two, and Ariel is still getting herself into all sorts of trouble. She has an enviable collection of trinkets from the surface, human world, and spends all of her free time hunting for more. Her father is more than displeased about her obsession, but he is unaware of her collections. One evening, Ariel is drawn to the surface by the sight and sound of a ship sailing above and fireworks lighting the sky. Ariel makes a bold decision and climbs up to where she can peer onto the deck of the ship. Perfect timing rewards her with a glimpse of the handsome Prince Eric, and Ariel is immediately smitten.

Tragedy, however, seems to follow mermaids and sea-faring ships, as a storm seems to materialize from nothing, and lightning sets about burning the ship to smoldering ash. The fires work their way to kegs of gunpowder while Eric is still trapped aboard, and the explosion sends him flying from what remains of the vessel. Ariel immediately swims to rescue him, and manages to pull him to the shore, quite a distance, and stays with him until he becomes nearly lucid, then returns to the sea, to watch from a rock just offshore.

Eric awakes remembering nothing but her voice as she sang him back to the present. Ariel reluctantly returns home, and her new demeanor is quickly identified by her sisters: they know she’s in love. Triton finds out, and sends for Sebastian to tell him about this new suitor. Sebastian, assuming the worst and thinking that the King had learned of Ariel’s surface adventure, spills the beans about the human. Triton, in a fit of rage over his daughter’s latest brush with human dangers, storms into Ariel’s grotto and destroys every material possession she had accumulated from the surface world, including a carved statue in the likeness of Prince Eric.

Immediately following this distressing event, Ursula, the vengeful sea witch bent on controlling the seas for herself, has her spies, the eels Flotsam and Jestsam, conveniently inform Ariel of her powers, and her ability to help the hapless mermaid in a time such as this. Ariel, emotionally raw, immediately sets out to meet with the witch. Ursula informs Ariel that, for the small fee of her voice, she can give her legs and send her right to the arms of her beloved prince. The remaining catch is that if Ariel is unable to make the prince love her in return, and prove it with a kiss, she will return to the seas and eternally be Ursula’s slave.

Against the pleas of her friends, Ariel signs the contract, and Ursula works the spell, capturing Ariel’s voice in a shell, and sending the newly bi-podal princess surface-ward, where she is met by the seagull Scuttle, and clothed in the remains of a ship’s sail and some rope. Conveniently, Eric’s dog Max, followed shortly by Eric, manages to discover her shortly after the wardrobe change. Eric immediately recognizes Ariel as his savior, but is discouraged by her inability to speak, and doubts his initial recognition. He escorts the wobbly Ariel to the palace, where she is given a beautiful pink gown to wear in place of the haphazard sail.

Ariel makes an immediately memorable impression on everyone by blowing smoke in Grimsby’s face, and using a dinner fork as a hair-comb. She is endearing to all who meet her. With encouragement, Eric takes Ariel on a tour of the town, even letting her take the reigns for a while. After a bit of dancing in the town square, the evening concludes with a romantic boat ride, where Eric manages to decipher Ariel’s name, and the two almost share their first kiss. However, the moment is ruined when their small row-boat is capsized by Ursula’s hench-eels.

Ursula, realizing that Ariel truly is capable of winning over the prince, even without her beautiful voice, takes it upon herself to ruin the romance so that her own plots may still come to fruition. She takes the form of a beautiful brunette, armed with Ariel’s enchanting voice, and bewitches Eric, and convinces him to marry her that very evening, shattering Ariel’s heart. However, Scuttle manages to witness the evils of the witch, and knowing her true identity, warns Ariel and Sebastian, and the trio, with the help of many other sea creatures, crash the wedding before it can complete.

In a scuffle with Scuttle, Ursula’s shell pendant is shattered, and the captive voice is returned to its rightful owner. Just as Ariel and Eric are about to declare their love for each other, the sun sets, and the sea witch’s curse takes over, as the time in the contract has run out. Ariel’s fins return, and Ursula reverts to her usual form, grabbing the princess and dragging down to the depths of her lair. Triton, having been warned by Sebastian, arrives in time to fall prey to the sea witch’s plans, and trades his own servitude and powers for the freedom of his beloved daughter.

Eric had attempted to swim after Ariel and rescue her, but instead only manages to infuriate Ursula further. The sea witch uses Triton’s powers to grow to an enormous, frightening size, and begins toying with the weather, causing a catastrophic storm. Eric climbs aboard a ship caught in the whirlpool, and manages to navigate it in such a way that he gruesomely impales Ursula upon a sharp, broken piece at the bow of the ship.

The sea witch slain, her captives return to their rightful forms, and Triton is once again in power, the crown returned to his brow. Ariel has once again seen Eric safely to shore, and watches from a rock offshore, preparing to watch him move on without her. Triton, in his wisdom, realizes that Ariel would truly be happy with Eric, and makes the bold and painful decision to release her, and gives her legs. Thankfully, he also gives her a lovely lavender dress. Ariel rushes to the shore, and into Eric’s arms as they share an embrace and finally, their first kiss. The two are married with no time to waste, and are ready to dance into their happily ever after.

But Happily Ever After might have to wait.
